Baka to Test to Shōkanjū episode 1
Another new series this season is Baka to Test to Shōkanjū.
Now isn’t this a dark horse of the season?! Totally unexpected. This anime is about school life but from a totally new perspective! Under-achievers using the new school system to battle their superiors to upgrade their classroom facilities. This anime is a laugh a minute powerhouse with enough to keep even myself entertained from start to finish. There is always something happening on screen.
Let’s break it down.
Plot: 8/10
While set in a school, you are immediately introduced to the new schooling system. Upon taking a test you are designated a certain class ranking from A through F. Those with higher abilities get better equipment and rooms. So Class A sit like royalty where class F have to superglue their broken tables together.
If 1 class feel they deserve better they have the right to challenge any other class to battle. If they win they swap places with the losing class.
Now you must remmeber, this is a school afterall! Fighting is barbaric and the teachers cannot allow it..unless it is done by little chibi characters! These small chaps gain their strength from the owners test scores in whatever subject they choose to fight.
This anime so far is full of ironic humour. Something I feel the older viewer would appreciate. Slight and subtle puns, lengthy lead-ups for bitterly disappointing yet hilarious finishes. It’s unashamedly weird and i love it for it.
Animation: 8/10
Animation is crisp and clean.
It does include some CGI which is a serious pet hate of mine. however it is done intentionally. Turning the Chibi fights into a game.
Overall Opinion:
I’m loving this anime so far. While it isn’t excellent, it’s certainly a well thought out and executed anime. I only hope they can continue to keep the humour coming in the episodes to come…
