 Omamori Himari episode 1

Omamori Himari episode 1

Omamori Himari episode 1

With the start of the new season of anime comes Omamori Himari.

This is an adaptation from the manga of the same name. At first glance at this title I was given an impression of a pathetic male lead role who’s thrown headfirst into into the middle of something whilst surrounded by sensual beauties. Let’s just say i wasn’t wrong.

Let’s break it down.

Plot: 5/10

In good old stereotypical fashion we have a nieve boy just turned of age who ends up being the center of world changing drama. Meet Yūto Amakawa. Yūto is the only living descendant of the Amakawa Clan, one of 12 ancient demon-slayer families. However he doesn’t know this untill a busty and overly keen Himari appears to tell him his role and how she’ll now forever be his bodyguard.

Himari is a demon descended from an earlier demon that an ancestor of Yūto spared. Still with me? In gratitude, Himari’s family swore to defend the Amakawa Clan forever.

Rinko is the tomboyish childhood friend of Yūto who, funnily enough,  loves him. Hence a three-way love triangle. How..unexpected. *yawn*

We also have demons who are out to kill the demon-slaying families. At episode 1 we have yet to see these guys however from the intro I’d guess they’ll be females of various ages and sizes. All of whom will no doubt suddenly decide how great a guy Yūto is and to protect him also.See Rosario + Vampire for similar plot…

Expect many scenes of the usual embarassed lead male with hordes of females around trying to seduce him. Plenty of fan service can be guarenteed. Overall the plot is nothing new really but it’s stable and has proven itself to provide light entertain over and over again.

Animation: 9/10

Animation is crisp and clean. Nothing is worse than another Birdy: the might decode season 2 where the animators grow tired and slack off. unless it’s like Fooly Cooly where they intentionally do it just to take the piss and go so far as to revert back to manga. LOL at that by the way.

No CGI appears present. A pet hate of mine is when they cannot be bothered to draw a series of events for small parts and use computer generated images to portray it. Such as cars in a busy city center. They stick out like a sore thumb.

No censorship! Nothing needs censoring in this episode, nor do i doubt any of it will. However those of you who have watched Rosario + vampire or some random anime’s steamy hot spring bath, join me in celebrating another fan service anime censorship free!

Overall Opinion:

I won’t bash this anime. It’s nothing new, simply a new twist on an old base of a story. It’s been tried and tested time and time again proving it’s worth but it’s boring. Nothing unique. I’ll keep watching but only after watching everything else and at the height of boredom.

It will do well however due to the ecchi element of the anime. “We’ll use an old plot that works with loads of breast and panty shots! it works everytime!” Sadly it does too due to the thousands of teen males around the world getting their kicks from upskirt panty shots.

And before you ask what i call unique, try Death Note..Gantz..or Phantom Requiem for the phantom. Totally original stories that have never been seen before in anime. Notice they’re all tragic though? Hmmmm…..
