New season, new anime. Enter Ookami Kakushi.
I’m a sucker for twisted, gorey and sadistic themes. I used to watch Pokemon as a kid. A series where it always ends happily. I’ve seen many series where the guy gets the girl. They live happily ever after. Well sod that! I want the good guy to die trying once in a while. I want to mix it up and throw a spanner in the works! This series may well just do that..it certainly has the creep factor already!
Let’s break it down.
Plot: 9/10
A whole episode…and yet you’re left so puzzled as to what you’ve just watched! I can just see the writers laughing so hard at us all and I love them for it. You see a random scene f a girl and boy. her eyes glow red and they get chased. Intro. The episode starts. It’s as if they went back in time to tell us how events proceeded to the current situation which is a very mature method to take.
No doubt it’ll leave a few scratching their heads uncomprehendingly. Again, 2 thumbs up from me for that point too!
You then see a tale of a boy who recently moves to a new town and meets a girl. She automatically falls in love with him, or so it seems. He goes to school and is the most popular guy around. So popular it gives you the creeps. For good reason too it seems. One guy who takes it a step too far gets run down and killed that very night by a cult with a masked leader. All that can be said for him in class the next day is “he’s moved away”.
THE END! Huh?! where is the episode? What just actually happened? tell me more! Oh My God I could hump you Mr. Writer! This plot is so much of a tease it isn’t even funny and i’m loving it with a passion. So much so I may need a cold shower after watching it!
It’s creepy, It’s weird, it has gore and death. The episode gives very little, hints to a lot and leaves you feeling frustrated and demanding more. I’m sitting here in awe.
Animation: 9/10
Again, it’s crisp, clean yet grungy when it needs to be. Certain scenes have a dirty effect. High angled shots that subconsciously give the viewer a feeling of overwatching the scene as if a witness rather than a person just watching tv. Like the CCTV effect many films are adapting. the animation helps the episode along with it’s thriller style.
NO CGI!
Overall:
I am waiting, perched on the edge of my seat for the next installment of this series. It holds so much potential. Don’t let me down or i’ll cry..no seriously..don’t.
